John Willoughby Brickhouse and Family Photograph
This picture of John Willoughby Brickhouse and his family was brought to the reunion this year by Mary Erra. John was born May 8, 1867 in Tyrrell County, NC. He died in Norfolk, VA on December 6, 1930. I was told that he was working as a watchman in Norfolk when he was murdered by a black man for some pocket change.
He was the son of James Samuel Brickhouse and his wife, Lurina Caroline Richardson. Their old homestead was located on Grapevine Landing Road in Gum Neck. The old family cemetery is located just across from the old homestead in a field that is now overgrown.
Camille Everton located the cemetery while doing research on her book cemetery book. She took me to visit this cemetery in 1989 after the family reunion.
